  • 1.  secure vMotion?

Several years ago (2008 I think) the fact that vMotions happen in the clear became a big deal.  I remember seeing one author who said that his contact in Vmware said vMotion over SSL was coming soon.  Four years and a couple of releases later and I don't recall there being any change.  Is the best practice for securing vMotion still to put it on it's own non-routed network?

its probably best to isolate the vmotion network if you want to secure vmotion.

ssl would add a burdan and make vmotion slower.

As an example, vmware converter with ssl off is much faster then having ssl on.

this is probably why vmotion has not received ssl at the moment.
