"Select Datastore" (DMotion) disappears during VMotion

Hi everybody!

Before updating to ESX 3.0.2 Update 1 and VC 2.0.2 Update 1 everything was fine.

After updating our servers we have the following problem now:

When selecting a VM for migration, you have the following steps to go through:

1. Select Destination

2. Select Host

3. Select Resource Pool

4. Select Datastore

5. Migration Priority

6. Ready to Complete

.

When we select a destination, some of the steps suddenly disappears:

1. Select Destination

2. Select Resource Pool

3. Migration Priority

4. Ready to Complete

.

So DMotion isn't possible but moving a machine from esx to esx works fine.

We have two ESX servers connected to a SAN.

Any ideas?

Is your VM running? I believe moving files from one datastore to another is only supported for cold migrations, i.e. when the VM is shutdown.

That is correct. ESX 3.0.x and VC 2.0.x only supports moving the data files (vmdk, etc) when the VM is powered off.

You all are right! My fault!

So this file is closed.
