moving VM's from 4.1 platform to 4.0 platform.

is it allright to move machines from a 4.1 platform to an older 4.0 platform??

That should work without issues.

There are some new supported features in 4.1, which were experimental in 4.0 (e.g. Cores-per-Socket), however at the moment I can't think of anything in ESX 4.1 VM that would prevent to run it on a 4.0 host.

The VM should run fine, I move VM's from ESX <-> ESXi <-> VMware WorkStation <-> VMware Fusion all the time for development, testing and production without an issue. However you must manually un-install VMware Tools in the guest, vMotion or what ever then re-install the guest tools. There is no tools downgrade, unlike upgrade what your doing would require an un-install and re-install.
