migrate datastore for vcenter 4 server as a vm, without sVMotion

Hello,

I'm looking to migrate my VM for Vctr Server to a new datastore w/o sVMotion. What I gleemed for the community is; I should shut down all the vms on my host, enter the host into maintenance mode, then ???, it gets cloudy for me. I saw a suggestion to just move the disk files, another to tar the files and move, and one other suggestion to use Fast SCP. Just wondering if I need to do anything special to the SQL DB before I migrate? Any connections that need to restore? Any thing else I should consider?

thanks.

If (and I think is true) both datastores can be seen from the same ESX Server, you can connect with the vmware client directly to the ESX and copy the VM files with the browse datastore. Don't forget to remove the VM from the inventory and re add it again when the copy/move is done.
