meaning of an error message in vmware.log file

I see the following messages in the vmware.log files of one of my VM's .

Jul 11 10:49:55: vmx| F(762):1158 default config(ide0:0.deviceType)= ignored, != ata-hardDisk

Jul 11 10:49:55: vmx| F(762):1158 default config(ide0:1.deviceType)= ignored, != ata-hardDisk

Could anyone tell me what this means .

Thanks and regards

Hello,

Go into your VMX configuration file for the VM and extract the following lines.

ide0:0.deviceType

ide0:1.deviceType

They most likely are not present in the system but are present in the configuration file. It also looks like these VMs were imported from perhaps workstation?

Basically it is warning you that the configuration has some bad ignorable settings for the ide devices. For ESX these are only used for CDROMs.

Best regards,

Edward
