Be sure the your VC Server is clean and there isn't a previous version of SQL Express or MSDE.

If sql was some non-MS product I could understand install difficulties but IT"S not.

Did you try to download again and retry the installation? Looks like msi problem...

The latest I have is Virtual Center 2.5 Update 4. The next is vCenter Server 4.0.

Did your SnS expire? But even with expired SnS you should not have problem downloading VI3 stuff.
