how to do routing between two VLANs

Hi

Can any one explain how can I communicate between two VM when they are in diffrent protgroup and diffrent VLANs.

  1. Create a port group pg1 with vlan as 4095,
  2. Create another port group pg2 on the same switch with same vlan as 77,
  3. Create a vm server and connect to pg1
  4. Create another vm client and connect to pg2
  5. Now both the VMs are not communicating,

Can you please tell me, how to use routing. I want, both the VMs should communicate.

Many thanks in advance.

You either need to install a virtual router which connects to both port groups and does the routing or the routing has to be done by a physical switch/router.

Btw. I assume you are aware of the special purpose of VLAN 4095?

Actually you will install a virtual machine or download a virtual appliance from e.g. http://www.vmware.com/appliances/directory/cat/0?k=router&c=0 and configure this VM with multiple virtual NICs which are connected to the different port groups. Then you define the routing inside the virtual machine/router.

I'd suggest you take a look at e.g. Vyatta, IPCop (see link above) or http://www.endian.com/en/community/download/
