how do i install vCenter and vSphere?

how do i install vCenter and vSphere?

I was told that i can simply update my esx 3.5 server to 4 via vCenter.

So all i need to do is install vCenter. I went to the vmware website and downloaded Vcenter-2.5.0-U4-English.zip

I installed in and in VIC my version is 2.5.0 build 147633

It doesnt mention anything about vCenter...

How do i now update my hosts to esx 4. When i now do a scan i dont get the option to update to esx 4.

Is there something simple that i have missed??

Have you seen the upgrade videos?

Remember vSphere 4 is for 64 bit processors. I don't know what hardware your using so I'm just throwing that in.

The first part of the upgrade will be your vCenter instance. In order to manage ESX(i)4 Hosts, you must be at vCenter4 first.

You may want to check out the vSphere Upgrade Guide as well

Also, confirm your hardware is supported by checking the VMware Compatibility Guide

I went to the vmware website and downloaded Vcenter-2.5.0-U4-English.zip

This is the 3.5U4 version, not the VS4 version.

You can follow the update videos.

Or also consider to do a full reinstallation.
