host memory usage

Hi everybody.

I have two esx 3.0.2 and vcenter 2.0.2. Each esx have 8 gb of memory.

ESX1:

VM1: 4164 MB / Host memory usage: 1gb / guest memory usage: 43MB

VM2: 4164 MB / Host memory usage: 3.3gb / guest memory usage: 157MB

VM3: 2084 MB / Host memory usage: 2.5gb / guest memory usage: 100MB

The question is... why my esx1 showme the red alarm (host memory usage) if the VM's only uses 300MB ...

What i can do to decrease the host memory usage?.

Thanks

Do you have VMware Tools installed for each VM?

Is there a memory reservation set on each VM or in a resource pool that the VM is a member of?

Does each VM really need 2-4GB of allocated RAM?

Vmtools are installed in all VM's.

The configuration of all VMs is:

Shares: normal

Reservation: 0MB

Limit: Unlimited

Host mem and guest mem can be mis-leading because of all the memory tricks ESX does. Read these posts for mroe info on this...

Any chance you recently upgraded systems? There have been issues with stuck stats and alarms on systems after upgrading. Restarting the VC agent on the ESX host will fix that. I know I ran into that a couple of times.

service vmware-vpxa restart[/b]
