hardware benchmarking?

Hi

i am wondering if i can get any benchmarking on the number of images i can run concurrently on a given piece of hardware.

i have a desktop system with windows vista. its a core 2 duo with 4GB RAM, i can run two VMs on this machine using VMware workstation

i have another system (for POC) which is quad core with 8GB RAM. its a ESXi host, i can run around 6 VMs on it concurrently.

i am looking to buy a real server machine with two 6core CPUs, and 32 GB RAM. Storage will be external in NAS setup. i dont want to go in details here. but how can i to a rough estimation on number of VMs i can run on this system in parallel?

CPU usage is unlikely to be the limiting factor, it is more likely to be RAM or Storage.

For example the box will not be able to take 15 Exchange 2010 boxes, however 15 windows 2003 domain controllers..sure Smiley Happy

We need an idea as to the requirements of the vms you are going to be virtualizing.

Else try out this tool:
