HI,
I have recently installed the vcenter server and trying to understand it better.
I have a Windows 2003 Active Directory installed in the same network.
Is there any way where i can configure this AD on vcenter server so that users in the LDAP server (Active Directory) can login into the vcenter server.
So, basically i am looking to see if the LDAP users can authenticate into the vCenter server ?
Any help appreciated...
Thanks.
In you check the default vCenter permission, you will see that there is only the Administrators (local) group.
When you join the vCenter Server to a AD domain you can see also the domain user, and usually the Domain Admins group is added to the local Administrators group.

If vCenter Server is on a domain member, you can use domain users and groups.
By default only Domain Admins can use vCenter, but you can add other permissions (see the permession tab in the vCenter inventory).

Thanks Andre.
Can i give the LDAP users (non-admin) permission to login into the vcenter server ?
What i mean is - i have created the Active Directory and added users (simply just users - non-admin) there.
Now, back on the vcenter server, can i configure the LDAP server IP addr. and select users who can login into the vcenter server ?
Thanks.
Is this user an AD user?
Is vCenter Server a AD domain member?
If yes, you have only to add a permission in the vCenter permission tab.
Andre
Right now, i am using local admin user to login into the vcenter server.
However, i want to configure the LDAP users to login into the vCenter server.
Thanks.

I can see and add the ldap users when i choose the domain controller in the "add permissions".
