i have (for right now) in my environment:
a single esxi 7.0 update 3 (build: 20842708)
a single VCSA version 7.0.3.01400 (build: 21477706)
I want to add this esxi host to my VCSA but when i try to do so it loads for a long time and then fails with reason:
cannot connect <ESXI> in <cluster>: incorrect user name or password.
I have tried:
-create a new user on the esxi, give it admin rights, and even tried the method from this post: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/79905
-update both the VCSA and esxi to the versions i have listed above.
-recreate the VCSA entirely
-delete the vpxuser
-restart just about all services
-many reboots
-reset passwords of accounts on both the esxi and VCSA
-try to add it to the datacenter instead of the cluster
all of which did nothing and ended with the same error.
maybe important to know is that while the VCSA is fresh, the esxi is not. in the past it has been connected to a VCSA but somehow on its own lost that connection and that is when i created a new VCSA (old one was not responding at all, or even booting right). But as far as i can see there is no longer any connection to this old VCSA in the esxi.
Does anybody know how i can fix this without having to reinstall the esxi (which would be a lot of work because of the number of VM's)?
