cannot add 3rd esx server to VC server

Hi, I am successfully using virtual centre server to manage 2 ESX servers that are configured as a HA cluster. I would like to add a 3rd ESX server to manage as a stand alone server. When i attempt to do this i receive an error message stating that i do not have the required license. The 3rd ESX server has a standard ESX license. I was not aware that a particular license was required to use VC Server to manage the ESX server!

Is a license required and if yes what is the license?

thanks for any help with this.

Yes, license is required - it's called virtual center agent. And you can even buy it.

But in most cases you already have this license included, you just need to generate centralized license file and feed it to license server.

You will need a VC Agent license indeed : https://www.vmware.com/products/esxi/uses.html
