Windows 2008 Template Deployment

I've noticed my Windows 2008 templates are being deployed with the user profiles coming out completely clean.

Is this part of the Windows2008 sysprep? Is there anyway that I can keep the user profiles the same?

For example in the templates I've added some items to the "Startup" section of the programs area, I've added shortcuts to the desktop etc.. All of these are being wiped as if it's a brand new Windows 2008 install.

You can work with default user profile to set some configuration for new users.

As andre says if you set these settings in the all users part then it shouldn't be written over by sysprep as what sysprep does is create the disk with just the default user accounts Another way to miss this is to not use sysprep and just get a sid generator and obviously change the name of the machines, thereby keeping your customisations but also doing the necessary work to make sure the machines don't clash

This is default behaviour of sysprep. if there are setting that you need to be set for each and every user of the server, I would set them in as a logged on user and then copy then to the .Default user profile. this includes the DAT file. this is not cleared out during Sysprep but all other Profiles other than the Default user and All users are.
