Windows 2003 R2 Server Customization

All,

I was trying to deploy a windows 2003 R2 server virtual machine from a existing template with a little bit of customization.

According to the customization wizard, I could  just leave the product key field empty if no license is required.

(It didn't ask me for license key when I was preparing the template)

However, during customization, it always stuck at the product key prompt.

I wonder if any one know what could be wrong?

Here's some more info on my environment

Template:

Created from a Windows 2003 R2 Server ISO provided by my company which didn't require product key during installation

vCenter

     v4.1 build 258902

sysprep files are loaded from the above ISO to %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\VMware\VMware VirtualCenter\Sysprep\svr2003

     Files under Sysprep\svr2003 are

        cvtarea.exe, deploy.chm, factory.exe, oformat.com readme.txt, ref.chm, setupcl.exe, setupmgr.exe, sysprep.exe, wfinf_guide.doc

Thank you very much for your time and help.

2003 requires a license key for the installation when using sysprep, whether that is a volume license key or a retail key. I only leave the license key field blank when working with KMS activated operating systems, such as Server 2008 and Windows 7.
