Will Nexus 1000v 4.2.1.SV1.4a run on vCenter 5.1?

I've got a vSphere 4.1 environemtn with Nexus that I'm upgrading to 5.1. Can I upgrade vCenter first, then the 1000v, then the hosts?

Thanks,

John

Hi John

Yes, you can upgrade VC first, but when it comes to upgrading hosts that are on the DVS, you're better off creating a custom ISO image with the new VEM using PowerCLI and then rolling out upgrades with Update Manager.

Otherwise, you'd need to remove each host from the DVS, upgrade, then re-add. This is not ideal.

I wrote a KB for this, but I'm still working on getting it published.

Send me an email (bperove@vmware.com) and I'll forward you the exact steps to create the ISO.

Thanks, the official VMware response I got was that we would need to upgrade the 1000v first, so that's what we did.
