I have an ESX 3.5u3 cluster of 5 hosts. HA & DRS are enabled. All hosts have same hardware (HP BL480c blades), all NICs have WOL supported and have been tested. All come out of standby OK. Current failover capacity lists at 4 hosts (since I have 5, this pretty much means all the VMs could run on 1 host). I have set Configured Failover Capacity 3 hosts. Admission control is set to not allow constraint violations.
Power Management is set to Automatic and all 5 hosts are set to "Use Cluster Default".
At any given time, only 1 host is in standby mode.
Since the failover capacity is so high, I would think other hosts could be put in standby mode as well. Is there an advanced setting to only allow a certain number of hosts in a cluster to go in to standby?
