Why my domain account is getting locked out from Virtual Center Server??

Hi,

I have my Virtual center server in a XP machine & my domain user account is getting locked out from this server giving below error message on event viewer. No where I have used my domain account in Virtual Center configuration.

Googled for ADVAPI process, but everywhere it is mentioned it is used by logon process, iis etc. Some time it always use old username & password resulting account lock out.

However I didn't have anything extra apart from VC on that perticualr machine. Does Virtual Center use this process somewhere?

Any Idea how to fix it?

Have you changed your password recently? If you installed VirtualCenter under this account I believe some services get run by it. Go into your services on the VirtualCenter server (Start -> Administrative tools -> services) and look for your account name next to some services. If it is there make sure they are running under a designated service account and not by a users admin account or an account which password changes on a regular basis.

No. I tried a lot of permutations & combinations, but didnt work.

As I moved to a client place to execute a project, just kept my new password as the old one. After that I never reset my password. Even didnt get time to log a case with Vmware Support.

When I will back to office in next month may be I will take a look of that.

If you get some solution please post it over here.

Hi Brajesh, by any chance do you have a user account setup on the VC server called Brajesh? Just wondering if a mix between local and domain accounts might be causing a problem

Thanks,

just found an other thread discussing such an issue: http://communities.vmware.com/message/1131064

In our case the account was also used by the vkernel CBA appliance - collecting statistic data from VirtualCenter. Changed the users password there and issue solved.

Hi Brajesh, do you have update manager installed? Did you enter your account details in the Update manager proxy configuration?

EDIT: Oh and If you do have update manager installed and using NT Authentication, step back through your ODBC DSN setup as it stores an encrypted version of the users password in the registry

Thanks,

Neil
