The VirtualCenter Diagnostic Port is set to 8083 by default.
I would like to know what is the purpose of that port other than "it's used for diagnostics.."

Where did you see that port at? This doc lists all the ports, I didn't see that one on there.

It is displayed during VC 2.x installation (ports screen).
Ah, You will probably not find much on it. Googling it comes back with the same thing, TCP diagnostics port. Vmware is probably the only one that will know the answer to that one.
