What happens when the mast server in the vSphere HA 5 is down

Hi Friends,

What happens when the master server in the vSPhere HA cluster is down?

All the VMs running on it will be restarted?

Correct, They will be started by the new master after it's been elected.

As I said, it does take a little bit longer, but we are talking seconds, not minutes Smiley Wink

Yes. If the master goes down, an election will take place and another host will become master and the VMs which were running on the old master will be restarted.

If the Master Host handles all the HA protected VMs.

If the Master goes down, there will be a re-election that takes place after 15 sec i think.

Once the New Master is elected, it will look at the protected VM list and try to start them, if the storage heartbeat is down as well.

Once the Old master returns, it will recognize there are 2 Masters and any 1 will be demoted.

This is determined on a "Good Guy" factor, do not ask me how Smiley Wink

So in short If the Master goes down, HA will take a few seconds longer to kick in.

So, when the master is down. then the VMs in the old master will be restarted after the new master is coming?
