Web client requires local permissions on vCenter server?

It appears that when attempting to log in using the web client, an attempt is made under the context of the user logging in to perform a local log on at the server running vCenter. This happens whether the vSphere Web Client service is running on the vCenter server or a separate server and is related to the inventory service and management web services. I assume this behavior is isolated to vCenter installations on Windows. Similar behavior has always been a problem with 4.x (and has not been fixed in 5.0) as attempting to search the inventory or sort a list initiates the same out-of-band local log on attempt, but with the web client, users cannot even log in at all unless they have local log on permissions on the server running vCenter.

With the fat client this behavior can be worked around if you check the box to pass through credentials, but I'm not aware of any work arounds for the web client. Is anyone aware of a work around for this bad, bad, bad application design if using the web client?
