WSUS client not working on any vm

I have five vms, with various revs of Windows; XP, 2k3, 2k8. Not one works with WSUS. All of my physicals work with WSUS. Is this a pattern?

I find the following errors or similar on those windowsupdate.logs; I have no proxy settings but I tried flushing them out anyway, no change :

I don't see anything wrong using WSUS with virtual machines at all, actually we're running it without any issues. Lately, we have deployed SMS 2007 servers and we still use both of them, because WSUS is so easy to use and manage. Besides, that have you check out VMware Update Manager? You can use VUM to update patches for your virtual machines guests for LINUX/Windows as well. Look at the error, sounds like you have firewall issues or proxy settings that you want to check with your virtual machine networkings or WSUS make sure they can communicate.

Try to test the WSUS Client Diagnostics Tool to see what you get?

Have you tried 'telnet <ip of WSUS server> 80' and 'telnet <ip of WSUS server> 443' from your VMs? Also try the MS Clientdiag.exe from the VM. This will test your WSUS client setup. I've run in to this issue with IE on the client having the proxy set to 'Automatically Detect Settings'

Got it. It was a name resolution issue. Thanks!
