Hi.
I have setup 2 ESX 3.0 servers and also VirtualCenter Server 2.x on two Dell servers with both only 2 NIC's installed and each Server has its own HDD storage drive.
I need to get VMotion configured but running into some difficulty here.
On each ESX Server for each NIC i have the following setup:
vmNIC0 - Service console 10.88.10.42
vmNIC1 - Virtual Machine network
VMKERNEL 10.88.10.199
Can the default gateway be the same for the service console and VMKERNEL?
I know the recommended setup is for all Connection Types to have its own NIC, but this is currently not possible.
When I select Migrate I get an error message that it can't access the snapshot storage file. Is migration possible with snapshots?
Some assistance would really be appreciated.
Thanks
Johann
You can use a FC SAN, iSCSI or NFS
The AX100 will probably work. To be sure take a look at the following guides
Without a shared storage you can't vMotion.
You'll need to have shared storage for vmotion to work. If you don't have that, you can shut down the VM and run a cold migration.
Thanks for the answer, I have found that to be my biggest problem.
Can you use a remote storage device, or does it need to be fisically attached.
We have a SAN ax100, is this compatible?
Can you do a "Cold Migrate" with snapshot on the VM you would like to Migrate?
Thanks

The AX100 is supported. See page 5 here: http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_san_guide.pdf
In regards to migrating with a snapshot see this thread. Basically you can do it but if you have problems you're out of luck.
