Hi,
I am new to VMware in the last 2 months or so I have a mini datacentre with two ESXi hosts and 1 VCenter Server to manage both hosts.
not sure if you are allowed to or not but am I able to sell VM online, i.e someone could configure one and pay as they use it, they can connect to it over the internet via remote desktop with the external ip address? or would it have to be something very expensive and complicated to do to have it done properly?
Matt
Personally, I would look at services like AWS, etc. The question to answer before you start offering up VMs is are you going to be able to guarantee someone the same uptime, same fast configuration and setup, all for less cost? If the answer is no (which, no offense, you being new to VMware it probably is), you may not get a lot of interest.

is it possible to if you wanted to, or allowed to do such thing?
It is legal for you to offer hosting services using VMware products as long as you are using legally licensed copies of everything. A lot of companies use VMware as the underlying infrastructure for servers they host for other people. But as the other comment here stated, unless you know what you are doing it's better to go with an established cloud provider. And even if you do know what you are doing there is quite a bit to consider when offering online hosting services. Security, backups, disaster recovery, and the list goes on. I work as a VMware Engineer in an enterprise environment where we offer hosting services like this. And I wouldn't in a million years try to manage something like this on my own
