Virtual Machine Migration

Any thoughts as to why all of my virtual machines require that I shut them off to do either a host or datastore relocation? My ESX hosts are all identical from a hardware perspective.

In order to understand your issue, please add some information about your environment/setup.

Which kind of shared storage do you use? Do all hosts see the same LUNs/datastores?

How did you setup networking? Can you provide a screenshot?

Which errors/messages do you see when you try to run vMotion and/or svMotion?

To make a hot datastore migration (without change the host) you need a Storage vMotion license (from Enteprise edition).

To make a hot host migration you need a vMotion license (from 4.1 Essential Plus) AND CPU compatibility (or a cluster with EVC enable and same CPU family).
