Virtual Center shows ESX hosts and vm's in a disconnected state

I had my ESX 3.0.1 Virtual Center Management server running fine. It also contained the license server.

I've since installed the license server and VC server (I didn't overwrite the existing sql database) onto a different Windows host. The license server and VC services start fine. I connected onto the actual ESX hosts and changed the server license file to point to the new license server ok.

When I bring up the new VC console it opens, but the ESX hosts and their vm's are all in a disconnected state. I tried going to configuration - licensed features to change the license server fqdn, but the 'licensed features' option doesn't even appear.

Why is everything in a disconnected state?

Try restarting the license server service and then reconnecting the ESX hosts

When you say reconnect the ESX hosts, do you mean I should delete them from view and then re-add them back in? How do you re-connect?

You can also try restarting the management service on the ESX host.

service mgmt-vmware restart

I was able to succesfully get it going by removing the ESX hosts and then reconnecting them.

I tried to do this with a 3rd ESX host, that is being managed by another Virtual Center and received the following erro:

Failed to Install the Virtual Center Agent Service

Why would I suddenly get this error after successfully moving 2 other ESX hosts to this VC?

I just restarted the service and now I get this error:

There are not enough licenses installed to perform this operation

I only have 3 ESX hosts installed to virtual center and my license file says I can have more:

License Count

VC Management Server 1

VMotion 14

VC_ESXHOST 12

VC_DAS 16

DRS 16

PROD_ESX_FULL 12

ESX_FULL_BACKUP 16

Why would it be complaining about licenses now?
