Virtual Center service stops with error 2

Brought down the Virtual Center services to perform a manual backup of the SQL Express database thru SQL Server Management Studio Express. When attempting to bring up the VC services, the VC service stops with error 2. The following error messages are in the VC log file:

Unable to recover from 42000:10011

20 fileds are set for the table VPX_ENTITY_VMOP_COUNT

Failed to load tableDef 192 from database: "ODBC error: (42000) - [SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Access denied." is returned when executing SQL statement "SELECT ID, POWERON_COUNT, POWEROFF_COUNT, SUSPEND_COUNT, RESET_COUNT, REBOOTGUEST_COUNT, STANDBYGUEST_COUNT, SHUTDOWNGUEST_COUNT, CREATE_COUNT, DESTROY_COUNT, REGISTER_COUNT, UNREGISTER_COUNT, RECONFIGURE_COUNT, CLONE_COUNT, DEPLOY_COUNT, CHANGEHOST_COUNT, CHANGEDS_COUNT, CHANGEHOSTDS_COUNT, VMOTION_COUNT, SVMOTION_COUNT FROM VPX_ENTITY_VMOP_COUNT"

Failed to load vmop count information.

Init failed: VpxdPerfVmOps::Init(gDB)

Failed to intialize VMware VirtualCenter. Shutting down...

Forcing shutdown of VMware VirtualCenter now

The SQL Express is installed on the same server with Virtual Center. Just installed the latest Virtual Center version 4.0.0 build 258672.

SQL ServerAccess denied.

That could be the reason. You have a permissions error.

Also SQL Express is limited, you should not install it on the same server as vCenter, and you should use a full version of SQL like Standard.

Have you found a solution to this, I'm having the same problem and it is not related to SQL permissions. I can manually run the select statement from the management studio using the same account that the vCenter Service uses and many previous data calls succeed.

Found that McAfee Host Intrustion Detection System was blocking SQL statements. Had to uninstall McAfee HIDS to get Virtual Center to work.

Thank you for that. We were just forced to install McAfee HBSS by our upper level security guys.
