Virtual Center database backup ...

Hello,

I need to backup my virtual center environnement before upgrading to 2.5.

Ok, I know I need to backup the sql database... This should have been a very easy process if I were running SQL Server complete version.

My problem is that I'm running the light sql veersion which had been installed by Vmware ( it 's a kind of sql run time or embedded version ). And so, I cannot find the enterprise manager menu, from which it would have been easy to backup the DB.

May you please provide me with steps to backup the DB under this version of sql ?

Hi,

If you are using SQL 2005 Express you can download SQL Server Management Studio Express, and install this on the VC server.

Then from within the SQL Server Management Studio you should be able to backup the VC database by browsing through the databases and right clicking on the VC database, then select Tasks>Back up.

You can download SQL Server Management Studio Express at the following link -

Hello,

You have two possible directions to go in.

1) Shut down the SQL service and make a full copy of the db files.

2) Install the management tools as already advised and perform the backup.

Thanks Mark and all other who replied.

Yes, I did like this ( sql mngt studio ) and it works well.

( I granted Mark 'correct answer ' , and 'helpful' to all others.)
