Virtual Center Server and storage VMotion

Hi

Is it a supported option to use storage vmotion to relocate the Virtual center server when it is running as a VM? Is there any issues to watch out for?

Thanks

Hi, you must do a cold VMotion for you VC it in the best practice because VC run a data base and when you do a hot VMotion it's specify that dialog protocol and particulary BD must be turn off

so you can turn off you're VC and VMotion or stop all the DB service and VC and hot VMotion and after Vmotion restart all service you stop.

exemple why do not do hot VMOtion

dialog VM Database VM clone Database

a -> a

b -> wait for b clone

c -> wait for c stop and start the clone c -> wait for b so error

Thank you, does this mean you should not storage vmotion any VM hosting a database?

thats mean you can vmotion a DB VM or any service >VM but you need to stop critic service before for example all the service who probably have dialog problems when they restart

because if the machine where clone in a a position after continu to work and restart in a but all the dialog are in b or c it might have big problem

so to be sure it's better to turn off this VM. or to be very carefull and stop service.
