Virtual Center 4 error

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone has seen this before or could point me in the right direction.

We have a Virtual Center 4 systems installed and everything runs fine however it keeps giving the following error every few min the event logs:

{size:2}{color:#000000}{color}{size}Active Directory Web Services encountered an error while reading the settings for the specified Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services instance. Active Directory Web Services will retry this operation periodically. In the mean time, this instance will be ignored.+ + Instance name: ADAM_VMwareVCMSDS

Active Directory Lightweight Servers are not installed as a role other then what vCenter put in.

Any help would be greatly appricated.

Oh, I would love to award double points for that answer, but I didn't post the question and I don't have the option of awarding points unfortunately. Smiley Sad

Greg, this fixed worked perfectly for me....I just brought up a W2K08R2 server with vCenter 4.1 and was getting this same error message....once I changed the registry settings to match the ones on your blog, the errors went away.

I'm not sure how to mark this thread as answered, but it is definitely answered in my environment!

Thanks,

Shannon

Is it expected behaviour that this procedure will then create warnings in the EventViewer as follows?

Active Directory Web Services could not find a server certificate with the specified certificate name. A certificate is required to use SSL/TLS connections. To use SSL/TLS connections, verify that a valid server authentication certificate from a trusted Certificate Authority (CA) is installed on the machine.

Certificate name: vcenter.contoso.com

Thanks,

Ham

Hi,
I made the changes suggested in the blog and like Ham, I am also getting the following error:

Active Directory Web Services could not find a server certificate with the specified certificate name. A certificate is required to use SSL/TLS connections. To use SSL/TLS connections, verify that a valid server authentication certificate from a trusted Certificate Authority (CA) is installed on the machine

Hi

it sounds like both you and @ham probably don't have certificate auto enrollment enabled/your  enterprise CA is not issuing them or running properly.Try go into the  certs MMC - Certificates - Local Computer on the DC and request a new  certificate -  Domain Controller.

Just had this ADWS warning popup in the last few days on 4.1 vCenter. The solution you pointed to solved the issue. Thanks.

Hello,

i was suffering from the issue above. I've do the "bug Fix" , delete the reg_sz record for the SSl, put new dword with 636 , restart the service and have this error :

This computer is now hosting the specified directory instance, but Active Directory Web Services could not service it. Active Directory Web Services will retry this operation periodically.

Directory instance: ADAM_VMwareVCMSDS
Directory instance LDAP port: 389
Directory instance SSL port: 636

Some help is needed Smiley Sad

Hi

As mentioned in this thread and from recent comments on my blog the fix still works in vSphere 5 and should fix your problem still.

Here's the link again to save you searching through the thread

Hello Gregg,

I had already read your blogpost. After re-add/correct PORT SSL, event 1209 disappeared but a new event appears every minute, event 1202. It looks similar to http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1612431.

Hi

Are you sure you edited it with the correct names as i notice the naming has changed since I created the blog posting so possibly this is where it has gone wrong? I'm running vCentre 5 and 4 on a number of my vSphere environements and this fix has worked on all without any new errors.
