Vcenter storage question

Does Vcenter need to see all the attached storage that the hosts have access to? I tried googling it but couldn't find a definitive answer. Thanks!

Hi,

No, you don't have to present the Storage LUNs to the vCenter server (if installed on physical host). Its recommended that you have redundant network connectivity between the ESXi hosts and vCenter since that's how the heartbeat information is shared. In most of the installations vCenter is a VM and if that is what you have then you can srtike out this step of presenting LUNs to the vCenter VM. The storage is configured between the ESXi hosts and the LUNs and vCenter gives you a management interface to create/delete VMs on the underlying storage.

Awesome. Thanks for this. In my case Vcenter is a standalone physical server. I have 2 nics teamed which connect it to the ESX hosts. Wanted to be sure I wasn't missing a feature of some sort by not having a connection to the iSCSI storage as well.

vCenter doesn't need access to shared storage but installing vCenter on the local disks of the physical host might not provide all the HA options that vCenter as VM on shared storage would. However I understand the compliance and stuff in some orgs which don't allow you to install vCenter on VM Smiley Happy.
