Vcenter Disconnect while SQL is unavailable

I just built a new vCenter 5.5 server and started a fresh database on SQL2012 which is located on a separate server. Last night while the SQL server was being patched/rebooted we could not connect to vCenter and eventually restated the services. Seems simple and common sense that this would happen, but it never happened before  on our old vCenter 5.0 server and SQL2008 database server. I'm wondering if I missed a setting when building the new vCenter server that would reconnect to the DB once it became available. Any ideas?

TIA

Troy

Maybe the downtime on SQL Server 2012 R2 was too long, take a look at explanation on this another thread: Re: vCenter database placement
