I'm running a fully updated Windows 2003 Standard x32 R2 SP2 on ESX 3.5U4. The VMware Tools are installed, and the service always crashes. I've Googled everything I can think of, and done quite a bit of searching here on the forums. Has anyone come across this before, and if so, how was it fixed?

....and your VMware Tools are the same build level or your ESX Host? Have your tried to uninstall the tools then re-install?
Yes, the VMtools were installed from a 3.5U4 host that has been fully remediated. Yes, I have uninstalled/rebooted/installed the tools, I've repaired the tools install, and I've modified the tools install. Still no joy.
Question: is the virtual machine a clone of an other?
If so run newsid ... this may solve the problem!
