VMTools & VC 2.5

I need to upgrade our VC 2.01 to 2.5 to be able to support serveral new ESX 3.5 hosts we are building, our existing ESX hosts are 3.0.1. Once I upgrade VC to 2.5U1 do I have to upgrade the VMTools on all of the 3.0.1 VM Guests? Will VMotion, DRS, HA, etc still work if I dont? We are planning to migrate fully to 3.5 later in the year and I dont want to upgrade all the VMTools if I dont have to.

VMtools is linked to the ESX ver. and not VC..... so updating VMTools in guests is not needed at all.

Ohh.. a bit off topic, but according to the 2.5 comp. matrix a couple of patches need to be installed on hosts if using VC 2.5.

Check http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_35/esx_3/r35/vi3_35_25_compat_matrix.pdf

I just wanted to make sure that you've seen this before upgradiing VC..

Yes, I saw that. The 3.0.1 hosts are current on patches so we should be good. Thanks for the help!
