VM templates and windows customization of

I am trying to determine the best way to deploy our templates with specific customizations for the windows vm itself. IE: names of the nics, ip addresses.

First thing i tried was to actually use the customize sysprep stuff that vmware has built in for templates. Even though i configured a nic with a specific ip etc. It did not take. Not sure if that is related to VC U2 not fully handlign win2008 customixation (we have the vm tempalte setup as vista)

Second, I would like to find a way to run a script during the sysprep process that could possibly do all of this configuration. Are there any script around to do so?

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

Moved to the vCenter Server forum.

Until ESX fully supports 2008, you may have limited success with using these tools. However, most likely you need a 2008 ready version of sysprep to make it work. That comes from Microsoft.

As for templates, you approach is correct.

As for running a script within the VM, you could put a script within the GUest OS and set it up as a first run sort of thing as you make the template.
