VM snapshots

Hi Experts,

We are facing very strange problem with one of our VM. Actually, some script is enabled for taking snapshots on this VM and the  snapshots are occurring almost every day. We do not know from where and how this script is running. We know the user account from which it runs (and it is our system account with which we run VMware services). I am sure there is no backup software which running for this VM which may cause this kind of behavior. Any guidance will be of great help.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi ,

You can find the source of the API call from the hostd logs and the vpxd logs.

Thanks

The option that I would go at the moment is to disable the snapshot functionality until you figure out from where is the script running.

To do so, first you will need do delete the snapshots. The safest option will be to consolidate so that all the changes are written to the base vmdk file.

Now you will have to power off the VM, go to Edit Settings, click on Options > General > Edit Configuration.

Click on Add row. Type these values in the Name and value columns.

snapshot.MaxSnapshots - 0

Click on OK and Power ON the VM.
