VIrtual Center heartbeat from green to yellow

We currently have our virtual center server beatbeat going from green to yellowo and then back from yellow to green. Can see this in the

Events on Virtual Center Server. Any ideas on how to troubleshoot this further?

Hi,

i had the same Problem, we turned off the firewall on our ESX:

Log into ESX via SSH, /etc/init.d/firewall stop

Or you have Problems in the /etc/hosts:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost

<IP> <HOST + DOMAIN> <HOST>

regards,

Daniel

Which version of VC are you using

Also check to see your NIC and switch port seetings match for duplex/speed. We found that was causing issue

DIckybird,

We are using VC 2.5 . When I do the command "esxcfg-nics -l" at the ESX layer the virtual network adapters all look good. They are all up with full duplex. Any more ideas?

The NIC and switch port settings also match for speed.

VIrtual Center loss of heartbeat was encountered by hostd restarting on the service console.

Hostd was restarting due to insufficient memory on the service console (even though we have 800MB memory configured) This is a feature of ESX 3.5 update 2

hostd restarts to flush the cache and reset the memory causing a temporary disconnected state between the ESX Server and Virtual Center.

If you look in the /var/log/vmware/hostd.log file (the relevant one when the alert was sent) we could see the message "memory checker - memory exceeds soft limit" and "memory exceeds hard limit" and then noticed the vmware watchdog daemon restart the hostd service.
