VIC 2.5 Error & crash

I am not sure if this is the right place for this.

I've just tried installing the VIC 2.5.0 Build 62650, from the Virtul Server 2 Beta 1 Build 63231.

I am running it the client on a Windows XP SP2 desktop with the server on the same machine.

I can login & start a machine easily enough, but when I click the console tab I get an error message:

"Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation."

A second click on the console tab causes the client to crash without so much as a by your leave.

The error puts the attached in the log file, the crash writes nothing at all.

Regards

I called tech support and this worked for me pc (IBM T60)

copy libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll from C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\2.5 to C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Virtual Infrastructure Client\Launcher.

Try deleting the "VpxClient.GroupPropViewGetting Started" registry key under

If that key is set to "True" when the client starts, opening a "Console" or "Edit Settings" window crashes the client.

If that key is missing, or set to "False" when the client starts, the client works fine.

If you change the state of that option (turn it off) while the client is running, you can still open consoles etc, but when you quit and re-run the client, it stops working.

Thanks, but sorry I don't have that registry value, so I cannot try deleting it.

All that I have under

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VMware\Virtual Infrastructure Client\Preferences\UI

is an SLLIgnore key with one value.

Any other suggestions?

You made my day!

Had same problem on Vista SP1 - VI 2.5 Client worked about 6 weeks without a problem.

At a moment's notice: Opening console oder editing settings of a VM crashes the VI client.

Searched for a solution about 2 weeks.

That worked for me ! (copy the 2 .dll)

Thanks

Thanks! The copying of the files worked for me too.

Scenario: After In-place upgrade of 2.5.4 to 3.5.0_update_1 (82663 build), the VI Client 2.5 was downloaded and installed. No errors thus far. Connect to host, but unable to launch a console to the VM. or edit VM settings. I got the "thrown an exception" error. Windows XP-SP3, on an IBM T43.

Thanks again,

JohnF
