VI Client Datastore Enumeration when using Windows Vista or 7 w/Aero turned on

I tried locating an answer to this one and am surprised I didn't find anything. Call it an annoyance, but when using Windows Vista or Windows 7 with Aero turned on, the VIC is painfully slow enumerating datastores for any given ESX server. Turn off Aero and datastores enumerate instantly. This has been an issue for quite some time now and I just upgraded to VC 2.5 U5, updated my client and still have the issue. Does anyone know if this is going to be addressed or a workaround other than disabling Aero?

happens to me all the time... just the joys of running the VIC on Vista. I usually use XP with the VIC if I am going to do extensive work in vCenter.

There is a workaround so that you can stop Aero only when the VMware Infrastructure Client is running. After you stop the VMware Infrastructure Client Aero returns:

1. Right click on the VMware Infrastructure Client icon and select properties.

2. Go to the "Compatibility mode" tab.

3. Enable "Disable visual themes" and "Disable Desktop Composition".

4. Click "OK".
