VDR -

I intend on moving our VDR to another ESXi server that will use local storage to store the VM and the VMDK containing the dedupe store. The VM's that need to be backed up are on an IBM bladecenter center with 2 blades and 2 storage arrays built into the bladecenter. VDR will not have direct access to the storage that the VM's reside on since it's local to the blades only. How does VDR backup the VM's? Does the VDR backup through each blade's ESXi management interface?

The VDR will back up via a plugin interface which has along with the installation package. You can play this on an NFS backup to tape for subsequent play or something. The VDR is an OVF.the VDR does not need to see all the LUNs, the VDR connects to vCenter.

So the VDR just needs to be able to communicate with the vcenter server in order to backup the VM's?

Yes, vDR needs to see the vCenter server, and of course have access to the repository where the backups will remain (destination).
