VCenter Server 8 "Upgade" Storage size selection issue

Hello,

I'm trying to test the V8 VCSA upgrade method from a running version 7.0.3.01000.

VCenter Server ISO (VMware-VCSA-all-8.0.0-20519528.iso) downloaded well, running UI > Win32 installer, entered all relevant info to the step-by-step procedure, but when selecting the Disk Storage size I see no option from the Tiny "Default" size, which mentioned something around 600~700 GB by the online manual.
What I can select is the "Large" option, which size I definetely do not have.

Original V7 Disk size allocated around 132GB (default) on a 1TB SSD. I guess the new V8 size selection is wrong / missing the Tiny > Default option.

Pls advise.

Regards,

Pal

I have the same issue with my upgrade using the 8.0.0-21216066 iso.  I also tried the install option and it has the same problem.

I found a trick to get it working by just toggling from small default and back to tiny.  I could only get it to work on the install option, not upgrade.  The selection still shows large but the chart shows the correct storage for tiny default.

I'll then followed this post to finish the upgrade https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/78914

It didn't actually work in the end.  It said upgrade import failed on the appliance screen.  The appliance ui said

File system /storage/seat for database storage has run out of space. Increase the size of disk /storage/seat or decrease the data retention.

Which is odd because before the upgrade /storage/seat has 9.3GB out of 9.7 available.

I don't think vmware wants us to use version 8, the upgrade is too buggy.  I could try large size but it's a massive waste of space if it were to ever grow that large.

Hi, at the end I also failed. So I decided to create a new Appliance as I have only 2 managed host locally. Less headache 😉

But the smallest selectable normal size is even 2 times larger than under V7. Same selection, same setting for the existing 2 Hosts to manage.... Maybe V7 had smaller log set or config size.

I hope one day conversion will be smooth operation as V7 soon will be less popular as the time goes by..
