VCSA 6.0 Clone Issues

We have been using templates for deploying VCSA 5.1 and 5.5 in an automated fashion and they have been working great. I am trying to set up a similar template to work with VCSA 6.0. The biggest issue I am facing is that after cloning the 6.0 VCSA, it takes significantly longer to power on and start the service on the appliance (mainly hanging on starting the inventory and vpxd services). These symptoms do not appear on the template VCSA 6.0 appliance, only a cloned appliance.

I have included some relevant vpxd logs below, judging by the information provided, it looks like the appliance has retained the IP it has received from the DHCP lease (10.10.199.36) from the VCSA 6.0 template and is still holding onto that after being cloned. Any ideas about how I could generalize my template to avoid this?

If anyone had come across this issue and have found any resolutions to the problem I would appreciate any assistance.

Although the VCSA 6 installer works, I am disappointed by the departure from OVF/OVA standards.

I suspect that, in cloning the VCSA, you are also cloning a raft of Certs created during the install. At best, the VCSA as a clone will have to regenerate bunches of Certs. At worst, clones will retain certain values of the original that will haunt you for many hours of diagnostics. Also seems to fit the log excerpts.

I had the similar issue and found a workaround for this:

Use FQDN while installing VCSA 6.0 instead of IP address. VCSA 6.0 basically looks to download certificates and start SSO from mentioned FQDN.

Update /etc/hosts of VCSA 6.0 appliance with new FQDN/IP (you may also update DNS records for forward and reverse lookup zones)

Execute the below mentioned command to restart all services:

# service-control --stop --all

# service-control --start --all

Remember that services starting will take 10-15mins.
