VCB question

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for VCB questions, since there isn't a forum dedicated to VCB.

Anyway, my question is given a full VM backup done with the "vcbmounter.exe -t fullvm" command, can I unpack the packed and split VMDK files produced into a single big VMDK file? The purpose of this, is that the disks we use to backup full VMs are also shared via NFS, and we want to be able to run the VM from the backup server using NFS in the event we have a complete failure of our SAN.

Can I use the vmware-vdiskmanager.exe tool from workstation to do this?

Take a look to the -M and -F switches. You have to use "-F 1 and -M 1".

Yes, it is also possible to convert the format with "vmware-vdiskmanager.exe" later if needed and as bonus its also possible to "mount" the downloaded VMDKs under a window driverletter (Only FAT/NTFS) to pick up single files. This step can be performed after the -t FULLVM task.

The "tool of choice" for recovering a fullvm backup is VMware Converter. It will combine all of the files together to create a new VM for you. Adding "-F 1 -M 1" will actually slow down the backups.
