VCB and system state?

Hey,

I have setup vcb and backup exec 12.5. They are working fine, however how do i get the system state information to be backed up? Any help would be great.

A FullVM backup in VCB will capture the system state. File level backups will NOT. The only other way is to either use an agent or schedule NTBackup to do it to local disk on the VM and then back up the bkf file to tape. With FullVM backups, you can always use the miuntvm utility to retrieve files if needed. Try doing VCB based FullVM backups on your environment and then compare that with the time it takes for traditional, agent based backups. Depending on how many VMS, you may find that the traditional method is faster. There is a limitation in Windows cmd.exe that will only give you about 1GB per minute throughput to the holding tank.
