I know that is for VC 2.4U4, but maybe could work also for VC4:

Anton,

The KB you cite says:

The VirtualCenter 2.5 Update 4 Performance Overview plug-in only works if the VirtualCenter Server is connected to a remote SQL Server listening on the standard SQL port (1433).

I was skeptical becuase I am running vCenter Server 4 and SQL Express in the same VM, but I gave it a shot and changed the ports to 1433 and restarted the SQL Service.

No change. Still get the error. I also tried a reboot of the vCenter Server OS in the VM. No change.

How can the port be changed to a different port e.g. 20207 ?

Anton,

I have made some many changes that I cannot say which one fixed this issue. Your post on the KB article 1009833 had me thinking. I did change the port to 1433 and that did not work, but I think I needed to close the Client and reconnect. also, I needed to stop and restart the SQL Express service. And also the vSphere Server. I also set domain name of the Server to the server's IP address in the extension.xml file located at C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\VirtualCenter Server\extensions\com.vmware.vim.stats.report.

Some combination of these changes fixed the issue and now Performance Overview is working on V4

I also had the same problem. By refering those two KBs, I fixed mine.

Acutally, I didnt install the Performance Plugin. Then, I noticed that "SQL Browser" service were in disabled state. I changed it to "Automatic" and

enabled the following plugins VI Client Plug-In Manager.

vCenter Storage Monitoring

vCenter Hardware Status

vCenter Service Status.

I am not sure that this would disabled by default or just in my case. However, the "Overview" shows performance report. Thats nice!!!

Shan

PS: Missed to add thread that I have installed JAVA and added in system variable.

I experienced this issue upon upgrading from VC 2.5 U4 to VC 4. For me, the fix was very simple. The "HTTP SSL" service was set to disabled on my vCenter server for some reason. I simply enabled this service and set it to automatic. Once this was taken care of I could then start the "VMware vCenter Collector" and "VMware vCenter Collector Provider" services and everything worked fine on the Performance Overview pages.

Hi Mike,

I've just upgraded from 2,5U4 to v4 - but I don't have the two services you mention (although the upgrade ran without issue) - did you have to do something to get these to appear ? Am I just missing something blindingly obvious ?

Thanks,

Ian.

Edit : I don't actually appear to have a Tomcat service either - how do I re-instate this without running the entire install again ?

Please check the following:

1. Your VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices is running

2. DSN uses a TNS service name.

3. You have ojdbc5.jar placed at %ProgramFiles%\VMware\Infrastructure\tomcat\lib

After performing 2 and 3, restart web services and relogin to VC.

I think if you follow the steps in KB 1008296 that will get the missing services installed for you.

Shot for that. Just upgraded a big client of mine from VC 2.5 U4 to VC 4 and had the exact same issue. Turned on the HTTP SSL service and it fixed it straight away. You saved me a lot time as this was the first discussion I came across using Google. Smiley Wink

I had this problem too and I tried everything listed here and more. Eventually I was so frustrated that I called support. Despite that, I fixed it totally by accident after I changed the order of hosts in the hosts file on the vCenter.

We are running the vCenter server and the ESX hosts on a private network with no DNS. I created a hosts file on the vCenter server a long time ago and I put it in this format:

IP FQDN HOSTNAME

Unrelated, I added an ESX host to vCenter and it came up FQDN, but I wanted the simple hostname. So I changed the order to see if it changed anything:

IP HOSTNAME FQDN

and not only did it fix the FQDN when adding hosts in vCenter, but it fixed the charts as well. I'm not sure if it broke something else, but I will find out soon enough.

Hi all,

I just wanted to make a clarification. I had the same problem on a fresh VC4 installation. But in my case, the database was on another Windows VM. I just turned on the HTTP SSL service on the database server, not the VC, and it solved my problem.

Thank you all.

Franck

Hi guys,

I am using a remote Oracle server 11g 1.0.7. My VC is Windows 2008 X64 Vsphere VC 4.0 fresh isntall. I had the fun initially with 32bit DSN and resolved that by installing 32bit odbc driver.

I have been trying to resolve this "Perf Charts service experienced and internal error."

Then I found KB article 1010172.

Copied odbc5 and odbc14 jar files to these 3 locations. Shutdown VC, restarted DB, started VC still no luck.

<VirtualCenter Installation Directory>\tomcat\lib

<VirtualCenter Installation Directory<\tomcat\webapps\sms\WEB-INF\lib

<VirtualCenter Installation Directory<\tomcat\webapps\statsreport\WEB-INF\lib

Anyone experienced the same issue and received anything useful from support?

Many thanks

Burak

Anton,

I'm having the same issue with my performance charts.

1. Fresh VC4 install

2. Oracle DB

3. Exact same error code: "Perf Charts service experienced and internal error.

Message: Report application initialization is not completed successfully. Retry in 60 seconds. "

Did support assist you in getting this issue resolved?

Thank you!
