Hello all,
I'm using VC for VM server and after creating a scheduled task it gives the option to enter in a email address to be notified when completed.
any thoughts on why this is not working?
You can also test this to make sure it will work.
On the VC Server, open a CMD prompt
Type Telnet
At the > prompt type "open 25"
If you get a response from the SMTP server it is working
You can type HELO VCTEST
You should get a Hello response back
Type quit to end the SMTP session and then QUIT to end the telnet session
You'll need to setup the SMTP server settings (File\VirtualCenter Settings\Advanced) for VC 1.x (page 415 in the below PDF).
For VC 2.x it's Administration\Server Settings.
You can also test this to make sure it will work.
On the VC Server, open a CMD prompt
Type Telnet
At the > prompt type "open 25"
If you get a response from the SMTP server it is working
You can type HELO VCTEST
You should get a Hello response back
Type quit to end the SMTP session and then QUIT to end the telnet session
Is your SMTP server open to relay from all hosts? You may need to make sure someone puts in that server as an allowable IP to relay from.
If the steps that esiebert7625 mentions work fine and we are getting alarms emailed to us, then why does the scheduled task feature not even give the option of having an email sent? I have looked through the manual, Chapter 17 in the Basic sys admin guide, and there is no mention of an email option at the end of scheduling the task. We had this feature in VC 1, do others have it under VC2? Perhaps we have some setting missing.
I don't see that option on VC2 either...
Me neither, maybe he was using VC 1.x and posted in the wrong forum.
