Anybody see any issues with having VCB and virtual center running on the same box? I planned on using a DL380 quad core/4GB ram with SAN connectivity

    Yes there is a problem.

When both are installed, guest customizations will break so template deployments will fail.

If you search the forums you will find heaps of information - but bottom line it doesn't work yet.

Same goes for other VMware products on the same server.

It breaks templates, so if you want to use templates don't do it. Also you need to consider some things. Virtual Center uses a LOT of resources on it's own right, consider just the 2G memory recommendation. Add to that VCB, which is designed to take all that backup load and move it to the proxy host, and now you have a host that is running backups AND monitoring the hosts... not a good idea.

...and as a side comment on SAN connectivity

SAN connectivity is not required for VC...so it's up to you if you need to connect it.

On the VCB server (which we have just established should be another server), multipathing is not supported or recommended for the VMFS LUNs. That said, i usually still go with dual ports and map one to VMFS and the other to a LUN for backups to sit.
