VC 5 Update 1 Vcenter not connecting to ESXi Cluster Members

Having upgraded Vcenter from 5 to 5 update 1 we are seeing issues, when restarting the server or service Vcenter will not reconnect to ESXi hosts that are cluster members its leaves them disconned stating that a manual upgrade of the agent is required.

Things we have tried to resolve this are below whilst they reestablish connection a subsequent restart of the service/server drops connection again this result occurs with a build 633860 (update 1 or previous server):

  1. Right click on the servers and click connect reestablishes connection and all HA/DRS features work.
  2. Remove the fdm agent as per KB 2006034 then right click connect reestablishes connection and all HA/DRS features work.

Other things we have tried:

  1. Remove a host from the cluster and re-add, subsequent restart of VC does not reestablish connection.
  2. Remove a host, reinstall from scratch using the update 1 ISO and readd to VC, subsequent restart of VC does not reestablish connection.

I'm scratching my head as all the HA/DRS features work but VC will not connect from restart to any cluster host feels like there may be an issue with VC not detecting the agent has been updated correctly but cannot be sure.

Anyone seen similar or have any advice???
