VC 2.5.0 and ESX 3.5.1??

Can VC 2.5.0 manage ESX 3.5.1 minus the any new features? We're in the middle of a ESX 2 to 3 migration and do not want to upgrade VC till we finish that project. However, we are deploying new ESX 3.5.1 boxes soon. I know this probably isn't ideal, but should it work fine so long as I avoid new features?
