Upgrade vsphere 4.1 to 5.1

hi guys,

i am going to upgrade vsphere 4.1 server to 5.1. but this is in the production environment. so i need to get advices before doing this. can i directly upgrade 4.1 to 5.1 without upgrading to 5.0? can anybody give the instructions on this? what are the challenges i will face when trying to do this?

The best practices is to follow the following steps

1. vCenter

2. vCenter Plugins

3. ESX(i) Hosts

4. VMware Guest Tools

5. Virtual Hardware of the guests.
